Inquiry
Call the school (216) 421-0700 for specific information or to have an
application packet mailed to you. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.,
Monday - Friday.
Open House / Classroom Observation:
Classroom Observations are done on an individual basis as we feel
that the parent’s observation of a classroom “in action” is
essential to understanding the environment that they are considering for
their child. This is an adult only visit to the school.
A public Open House is generally scheduled in January of each year.
Scheduling the Visit
Call the school (8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) to request an
appointment.
Observations are scheduled Tuesdays through Fridays at 9:00 a.m.
and 10:00 a.m.
The visit takes one hour. Half an hour is spent observing in a
classroom and then half an hour is given to the parents for a personal
tour and time for questions with the Director.
The Application Process
Applications
The school accepts applications at any time throughout the year for students
under four and a half years of age. Although the program extends through 8th grade, students who are five years of age or older can not enroll at
the Montessori School at Holy Rosary unless they are transferring from
another recognized Montessori school. The non-refundable application fee is
$35.00 for primary and $50.00 for elementary and middle school.
The Waiting List
Applications go on the waiting list in order of their arrival and are sorted
by gender and age specifics. If spaces become available during the school
year, the next eligible application will be pulled for interview. Interviews
for the following fall begin in January and continue until all spaces are
filled.
Interviews
The interview consists of two parts:
1) the parent interview, and
2) the child’s classroom visit.
The Parent Interview:
The parent interview is a time when greater details about the schools
approach to education and the schools expectations of parents are shared.
Parents share specific information about their individual child, their
expectations of a school and their parenting beliefs. The school believes
that in order to offer the child the full benefit of the Montessori
approach, the parents must fully support the philosophy at school and at
home.
The Child’s Classroom Visit:
The directress (teacher) meets the child in the classroom setting to observe
the child’s developmental readiness for the structure of the Montessori
environment. There are no academic tests. The directress must determine that
the child can accept adult leadership and that they will be able to remain
safe within the limits and freedoms of the prepared environment. (All
enrollments are done on a trial basis.)
For an elementary aged student, transferring from another
recognized Montessori school, the student will visit classroom for a day and
the directress will review the prior Montessori records.
Acceptance
The family will receive an acceptance packet in the mail that explains the
start-date and the requirements necessary to complete registration.
Deposit and Tuition Contract
A non-refundable deposit of $300.00 holds the child’s place until phase-in
begins. The deposit is deducted from the annual tuition. The tuition
contract is an annual commitment after the trial period.
Registration & Parent
Orientation
The school requires a complete shot record and a current medical statement.
The date of the medical examination must be within the past year and must be
renewed annually prior to that expiration date. The other permission forms
and emergency information must be complete and submitted to the office prior
to the student’s first day.
A mandatory Parent Orientation is required to complete the
registration process. The date of the Fall Parent Orientation (usually in
the last week of August) is listed in the school calendar.
Non-Discrimination Policy
The Montessori School at Holy Rosary recruits and admits students of any
race, color, gender, or ethnic origin to all its rights, privileges,
programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to its
students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race,
color, gender, or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational
policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs and athletic
and other school administered programs. It is not intended to be an
alternative to court or administrative agency ordered, or public school
district initiated desegregation.
